My primary objective as a tutor is to equip and guide my students to achieve outstanding grades (A or above), regardless of their initial target levels. With a proven track record of success, I have helped numerous students excel in their GCSE and A-Level examinations. My ultimate goal is to help students reach their full potential, fostering a strong relationship with the subject matter and exams as a whole.
To facilitate effective learning, I provide highly beneficial study materials tailored to the syllabus of the respective examination boards. These materials cover all aspects of the curriculum, supplemented by valuable exam tips and online booster sessions for comprehensive preparation. This approach ensures that students can revise efficiently, perform well in school assessments, and excel in their final exams.
As a UCL and Oxbridge-educated tutor with extensive experience, I possess profound subject knowledge acquired from my industry roles. Combining this expertise with my ability to explain complex concepts in a simple manner, I bring real-life, practical examples into my tutoring sessions to enhance students’ learning experience.
My teaching approach is flexible, consistent, friendly, and rigorous. I structure my tutorials based on clearly defined objectives aligned with students’ long-term goals. While maintaining a solid and consistent structure, I adapt each tutorial to cater to the specific needs and circumstances of individual students, maximizing efficiency and problem-solving capabilities.
Tutoring Approach:
My foremost priority is to ensure that students grasp the core skills necessary to meet the requirements of their examination boards (I am experienced with all major boards). Although different boards may have varying stipulations, certain fundamental skills are universally essential. For subjects such as English and History, these skills include:
Often, these skills are not taught in an engaging or easily comprehensible manner. I particularly focus on discovering the enjoyable aspects of the process, helping students understand how to write effectively. I incorporate unconventional and experimental writing assignments to encourage independent thinking and stimulate imagination.
I also emphasize the practice of presentation skills, including public speaking and handwriting, as well as effective memorization techniques. Moreover, I guide students in utilizing information technology to their advantage, aiding note-taking, organization of study schedules, and exam revision.
Subjects I Teach:
English GCSE/IGCSE/AS Level/A Level: To excel in English, students need to master sensitive close reading and adept writing skills. These abilities are crucial in completing coursework, controlled assessments, and written exams. I provide engaging reading materials that encourage independent thinking, thereby revitalizing and enriching students’ understanding of prescribed texts. In the lead-up to exams, my focus shifts to helping students create easily understandable and memorable sets of revision notes, as well as practicing timed essay-writing techniques through past papers. I teach a wide range of fiction texts across prose, poetry, drama (including Shakespeare), and cover all major exam boards
History GCSE/IGCSE/AS Level/A Level: I believe that developing historical skills is best achieved by moving beyond the confines of school textbooks. In addition to studying pre-digested materials, engaging directly with primary sources and diverse historical opinions is vital. This entails analyzing texts, paintings, caricatures, archaeological findings, sound recordings, and other media from a historical perspective. For A-Level students, I particularly emphasize the ability to think in long-term and comparative dimensions, necessary to achieve top marks. I have taught British and European history as well as a wide range of other historical topics.
Psychology GCSE/IGCSE/AS Level/A Level: I provide comprehensive support for both the AQA A Level Psychology Syllabus and the IB at both SL and HL levels. Whether you’re struggling with the larger concepts in psychology, facing challenges in a specific topic area, finding it difficult to apply your knowledge to exam-style questions, or simply seeking personalized one-on-one support at your own pace, I am here to help. With my in-depth subject knowledge and tutoring experience, I will aid in developing your understanding by utilizing interesting pieces of psychology research to illustrate key topics and explain crucial points of evaluation necessary for achieving top marks. Not only will this enhance your knowledge, but it will also make the subject more enjoyable and engaging. Additionally, I will guide you in mastering the assessment objectives set by each exam board for psychology and demonstrate how to effectively answer different types of questions they present.
Business Studies GCSE/IGCSE/AS Level/A Level The lessons will involve teaching key concepts from topics the student find difficult that is specific to the curriculum/exam board , along with working through how to approach various questions and structuring the best answers. Exam questions and mini tests will also be provided to consolidate students’ learning. Students and parents are free to suggest specific methods I could use to help learning eg. using more interactive videos or images to make understanding easier. For students requiring lessons for revision for GCSE/A Level, I usually ask the student to provide me a list of topics that they require additional help on, which will form the basis of the session where I will go through content and exam questions associated with that topic. Measurement of student progress will be regular through the use of mini quizzes and exam style questions at the end of each lesson and written assessments at the end of each module/topic
Government and Politics GCSE/IGCSE/AS Level/A Level I have created great revision sources and essay worksheets that make it easier to plan for essays and organise the style of writing. I will be teaching my students how to write essay plans and answer essays – all students have found this beneficial to their studies. I have taught previous politics students many revision techniques and I am constantly reminding students of how important it is to find up to date examples for essays. Lessons of unpacking how to structure and answer essay questions are also available to book. Students have the chance to provide me with an essay question they would like to learn to answer or can ask me to give them an essay question to answer.
Once upon a time, I was just a novice tutor starting with a small group of five, as a passionate tutor eager to help students achieve their academic goals. However, as word spread about the effectiveness of my tuition sessions, more and more students began to sign up for my services. With the help of technology I am able to continually grow and help students succeed in their studies and as a result have amassed 15 years experience in the process.
What to expect from classes that I personally host
The classes that I offer are delivered via Zoom by myself to ensure quality. They feature enlightening lessons, encouragement, and practical next steps for your subject matter. Most classes last 60-90 minutes and always include Q&A. Any questions that we can’t get to live are answered via messaging. Afterward, students receive the notes, slides, and other supporting materials that can be downloaded and kept for as long as you wish. Classes can also be an opportunity to meet and share with other students grappling with the same questions as you.
